Motorists recently received a warning about the dangers associated with failing to maintain control over a motor vehicle. Police reported that two drivers were killed in a motor vehicle accident when their vehicles crashed head-on into each other just outside of Rock Falls. Personnel from the local medical examiner’s office were called to the scene after rescuers were unable to revive either of the seriously injured drivers. One of the drivers was 19-years-old and, the other was 62. There were no passengers reported in either car, and no other vehicles were involved in the collision.
Sheriff’s deputies believe the two vehicles collided when one of the drivers drifted into the path of on-coming traffic. The head-on collision forced police to divert traffic away from the scene as officers interviewed witnesses and began an accident investigation. Local authorities requested assistance from the Wisconsin State Patrol to conduct a reconstruction of the car accident to determine its cause.
Operating a motor vehicle requires a driver’s attention and focus. A distracted driver traveling at highway speeds can quickly lose control over a vehicle. The risks associated with momentary loss of focus or concentration by a driver are one of the reasons for legislation restricting the use of cellular phones for making or receiving calls while driving and the ban on texting and driving.
A person suffering a serious injury might be entitled to file a claim for for medical expenses, pain and suffering, and other damages caused by a driver who fails to maintain control of a motor vehicle.
