When working on a roof, regardless of the height, your safety is always top priority. Even if you know exactly what you should and shouldn’t be doing, it only takes a simple mistake to cause a serious injury.

Here are some general roofing safety tips that will have you feeling good about your ability to avoid trouble:

  • Keep the area as clean and debris free as possible
  • Never work on a roof that is slippery or wet
  • Choose your footwear with the idea that traction is of utmost importance
  • Don’t use tools that increase the likelihood of an accident
  • Let others know what you are doing, so that they don’t make a move that increases the likelihood of an accident
  • Use any type of safety equipment that is available, such as that for preventing a fall

These are the types of general roofing safety tips that make it easier to work with a clear mind. If you’re following these, you can be confident in your ability to remain safe. But if you aren’t, you may always have some concerns about being part of an accident.

If you are ever involved in a roofing accident, such as one in which you fall to the ground below, you need to seek immediate medical attention. It’s best to call for an ambulance, as this ensures the fastest treatment possible.

From there, you should work with your medical team to decide what comes next. If you’re unable to return to your job, you may be able to file a claim for ‘ benefits.
