If you work outdoors, even only part of the day, it’s important to become familiar with the many causes of a potential slip-and-fall accident. This information can help you avoid trouble, thus preventing an on-the-job injury.

Here are some of the many things that can cause an outdoor slip-and-fall accident:

  • Ice or snow accumulation. Even if you’re aware that a surface is slippery, it doesn’t mean you’ll be able to avoid falling. It’s important to take extreme caution if you’re working outdoors in less than ideal conditions.
  • Inadequate lighting. Many outdoor slip-and-fall accidents are the result of poor lighting, as you may not be able to see what you’re doing or where you’re going. If you don’t have enough light to safely do your job, you should stop what you are doing.
  • Debris. Depending on your industry, it’s possible that worksite debris could begin to pile up throughout the day. For example, this is common in the construction industry. Unfortunately, it only takes one piece of debris in the wrong place to cause an accident.

These are a few of the many things that could cause an outdoor slip-and-fall accident.

If you find yourself involved in this type of accident at your place of employment, call for help and stay where you are until it arrives. Also, inform your employer of what went wrong.

Depending on the severity of your injuries, you may be able to file a ‘ claim, allowing you to receive money until you’re able to return to work.
