With the weather beginning to change, landscaping companies are spending more and more time outdoors.

As someone who works in this industry, you may be looking forward to warmer weather. You may also be preparing yourself to avoid injury once again this year.

Unfortunately, landscaping accidents and injuries are all too common. Here are some of the most common reasons for injuries in this industry:

  • Slip and fall: You have so much on your plate that you don’t always pay attention to where you’re going, which can result in a fall.
  • Contact with equipment: Not only can this result in a serious injury, but a fatality is not out of the question. For example, a landscaper could come in contact with a moving lawnmower or wood chipper.
  • Exposure to dangerously high temperatures: After a cold winter, it’s nice to know that warm weather is on the way. However, if you spend too much time in the sun, it can result in dehydration among other injuries.
  • Carrying a heavy load: You should never pick up more than you can comfortably carry, as doing so can cause a serious back or neck injury.

It can be great fun to work in the landscaping industry, but doing so comes with quite a few risks.

If you work as a landscaper and find yourself injured on the job, make sure you stop what you are doing, call for help and report the accident to your employer. Depending on your injury, you may not be able to return to work right away, which will lead you to file a ‘ claim.
