Family of teenager files lawsuit in fatal 2010 bicycle crash

Wisconsin residents might be interested to hear that the family of a teenager killed in a fatal bicycle crash at the Angel Fire Resort in 2010 filed a lawsuit against three companies that were involved in the manufacture of the helmet that the boy was wearing during the accident. The 17-year-old boy was a member of the Mojo Wheels mountain biking team. He died as the result of a crash he had during a practice run for the Chile Challenge bike race.

The mountain-cross course that the boy was riding on reportedly had several large jumps. The boy suffered from numerous injuries to his head and face and suffered from critical brain damage. He was said to be in critical condition when he was transported to St. Vincent Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe via helicopter. He died at the medical center. His family is now seeking compensation for his wrongful death.

The family's lawsuit claimed that the boy was wearing a SixSixOne helmet that was designed to cover his entire face with an additional chin piece to offer even more protection. However, the boy still suffered from major injuries to his face and head. The lawsuit goes on to state that the helmet is dangerous to people who might reasonably be expected to use it. It also states the helmet did not meet the the same safety standards of helmets used for more extreme types of biking.

Wrongful death lawyers might be able to help people file lawsuits to attempt to seek compensation for the deaths of their loved ones. Although monetary compensation may not make up for the death of a loved one, it can help ease the financial burden left by his or her death.
