Woman dies in 4-vehicle crash on Wisconsin highway

With multiple reports of collisions between late May and early July, Highway 97 in Stratford has seen its fair share of accidents this year. On July 1, a fatal car crash involving four vehicles tied up afternoon traffic for several hours between the eastbound and westbound stretches of Highway C and resulted in the death of a 57-year-old woman from Marshfield. A 49-year-old Stratford man was also reportedly injured in the accident. There were no other injuries initially reported. Prior accidents along the same highway this year reportedly resulted in at least one other fatality and left others seriously injured.

Speed and negligence is believed to have played a part in the July 1 accident, which occurred after a southbound vehicle attempting to turn was struck from behind by another vehicle. After striking the first vehicle from behind, the second vehicle then veered into oncoming traffic where it collided with a third vehicle. A fourth driver, who was unable to stop, then crashed into two of the disabled vehicles, according to Marathon County authorities.

A sheriff at the scene indicated that contributing factors in the crash may have included inattentive driving and speed. While the extent of damage to the vehicles that were involved is unknown, the crash investigation and clean-up efforts reportedly took hours to complete.

Considerable physical and emotional damage may be left behind following a tragic car accident that resulted from another driver's negligence. Those injured as a result of an accident and family members who have suffered the loss of a loved due to someone else's negligence may be saddled with medical costs and property damage expenses. An experienced personal injury attorney may be able to assist them in recovering compensation for physical and emotional damages by demonstrating liability on the part of another driver. In this case, multiple drivers may be liable.
