Car accident claims life of 2, 6 hurt, DUI to blame

Driving on Interstate 94 requires attention from all drivers on the road, especially when it is dark outside or the weather is bad. When drivers fail to pay proper attention to the road, car accidents can occur. These accidents can be serious, especially if you consider the speed of travel on the interstate. A recent accident in Elk Mound, Wisconsin, shows how serious these accidents can be.

The accident happened at around 2:40 in the morning when a vehicle traveling westbound on the interstate ran into van. The driver of the car fled from the scene of the accident. The van was found in a ditch along a tree line. The van was overturned.

The car he was driving was found less than two hours later. He was found approximately four hours after the accident walking on a roadway in nearby Menomonie. He was arrested for two counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

As you might have gathered from his charges, the man is being charged with the death of two people who were in the van he hit. Those two victims, who weren't wearing seat belts, were ejected from the vehicle. Six others in the van were wearing their seat belts and were taken to the hospital with injuries that weren't life-threatening.

These six injured survivors have to deal with medical bills from the accident. The family members of the two deceased victims have to deal with the expenses of their final arrangements.

Anyone who has been injured in a car accident, and those who have lost a loved one in a car accident, might choose to seek compensation from the person who caused the accident. Knowing Wisconsin laws might help them to decide how to proceed.
