A concussion is a serious injury that can impact your life in a number of ways. While most people are able to recovery from the symptoms in a reasonable period of time, this is not always the case. It’s possible for symptoms to last for several weeks, months or even longer.

Concussion symptoms fit into four categories:

  • Thinking and remembering
  • Physical
  • Emotional and mood
  • Sleep

For example, the most common physical symptoms of a concussion include headache, blurry vision, nausea, vomiting and balance problems.

From an emotional point of view, symptoms can include sadness, irritability and anxiety among others.

Here’s something to remember: Some concussion symptoms present right away, but this is not always the case. There are times when a person may not notice the symptoms for a couple of days or weeks.

This is why it’s so important to receive medical treatment after suffering a blow to the head. With this approach, your medical team can run the proper tests to determine if you have suffered a concussion or some other type of head injury.

If you suffer a concussion at work, inform your supervisor of what happened and receive immediate medical attention.

Once you consult with your medical team, you’ll have a better idea of what the future will bring. If you’re told that you can’t return to work in the near future, you may want to file a claim for ‘ benefits. The money you receive will come in handy as you recover from your injury with the idea of eventually returning to work.
