Take it upon yourself to review safety policies at work

When you get to work each day you likely aren’t thinking about winding up in the hospital because of an accident. The sad reality is that this can and does happen all too often at workplaces all over Wisconsin. Even if your employer does not hold regular safety meetings, you should take it upon yourself to review safety policies at work so you are familiar with them.

There’s nothing stopping you from conducting your own review of workplace safety policies whenever you feel it is necessary. Most workplaces have an intranet where these policies are readily available. Simply log into the intranet and read all of the policies you need to brush up on so you are prepared for anything that might happen.

You can also review these policies with anyone in your department. If you are the department head, schedule a meeting with your department once per quarter to review a different policy. This shows your employees that you are committed to their safety and health in the workplace.

If you are not a department head and are concerned about hazards in the workplace or how some employees operate, you can always go to human resources or your direct supervisor with these concerns. Make a suggestion that it might be time for a department review or even a company-wide review of the safety policies that are in place.

Reviewing the safety policies of your workplace can help you if and when an accident occurs. It can also help you to prevent an accident if you know where violations are occurring.
