Wisconsin man charged with homicide in fatal car-motorcycle crash

A 33-year-old man has been charged with homicide by use of a vehicle with a detectable amount of controlled substance in his system stemming from a car-motorcycle accident in which a female motorcyclist died. The complaint against the 33-year-old alleges that results of a blood test taken at a hospital following the accident were positive for THC. THC is the chemical compound found in marijuana.

The accident occurred in June in the 1000 block of West Atkinson Avenue. Officials say they were dispatched to the scene where a female motorcyclist was found lying in the road near a crashed motorcycle. An autopsy revealed that she died from blunt force trauma sustained in an automobile crash. Since her death, the woman's family has been advocating for the establishment of a motorcycle safety awareness day.

The criminal complaint filed against the driver alleges that he spoke at the scene of the accident and told officials he was attempting to negotiate a left turn and did not see any oncoming traffic before the accident. A passenger in his vehicle yelled "look out" just before he collided with the motorcycle.

Collisions between passenger cars and two-wheel motorized vehicles such as motorcycles often result in serious injury to or the death of the cyclist. Survivors of these accidents are likely to sustain catastrophic injuries that will require immediate and long-term medical care and therapy. Family members of someone who dies in a serious vehicle collision may be faced with life-altering trauma and economic hardships. An attorney with experience in wrongful death and personal injury law may be able to help survivors and families of victims recover their losses and damages from those responsible for the accident.
