Tendinitis is a serious repetitive motion injury

If you do the same job day in and day out, there's a possibility that you could develop a repetitive motion injury at some point in the future. There is no guarantee this will happen, but it's something to be aware of.

Tendinitis is one of the most common repetitive motion injuries. It is also one of the most painful. Here are some of the many things you should know about this ailment:

  • Tendinitis is the inflammation of a tendon (which is a tissue that connects bone to muscle)
  • Tendinitis can occur in many parts of the body, such as the shoulder, knee, elbow and biceps
  • There are many signs of tendinitis, including but not limited to pain and discomfort at the site, mild swelling and tenderness

If you suspect that you're suffering from tendinitis, it's important to receive an immediate medical exam. Assuming that the problem will go away on its own is a big mistake, as this doesn't typically happen.

After an exam, you'll have a better understanding of the extent of your tendinitis and the best treatment method.

If your tendinitis was caused by repetitive motion, one of the best forms of treatment may be rest. This could lead to a situation in which your medical team suggests that you avoid the triggering activity for an extended period of time.

A repetitive motion injury may qualify you for workers' compensation benefits. If your claim is denied for some reason, such as if your employer says you were not injured on the job, don't give up. You should collect more information regarding your injury and then file an appeal.
