What are the signs and symptoms of a broken bone?

Depending on your profession, you may put your body at risk every day of the week. For instance, if you work in the construction industry, you know that danger lurks around every corner.

You can suffer many types of injury on the job, with broken bones among the most common.

Here are some of the most common signs and symptoms of a broken bone:

  • Bruising or swelling
  • Deformity of the affected limb
  • Extreme pain that worsens when the injured area is moved
  • Difficulty putting weight on the injured area, such as a leg or ankle
  • Loss of function
  • Bone that has broken the skin

These are not the only signs and symptoms of a broken bone, but they are among the most common. It's also important to note that it's not always easy to diagnose a broken bone. While you may think you suffered a minor injury, only an x-ray can tell you exactly what is going on.

If you have any reason to believe that you have broken a bone, you should receive immediate medical attention. Depending on the type of accident, you may want to ask a coworker to call an ambulance.

If you break a bone on the job and are unable to return to work in the future, you may be able to file a claim for workers' compensation benefits.

With these benefits in place, you can receive compensation for your medical expenses and your lost wages until you are able to return to work.

If your employer disputes the claim that you were injured on the job, don't hesitate to move forward with the appeals process to get the benefits you deserve.
