If you work in the construction industry, you get into the habit of watching where you’re walking. You know that any type of debris on the ground could get in your way, thus causing a slip-and-fall accident.
However, there’s something else you need to know: An object could fall from above, thus striking you and causing serious injury.
Since this is such a big risk, it’s important that you always wear the appropriate safety equipment. While this includes many things, a hardhat is an absolute must. With this, an object that strikes you on the head may not cause injury, but instead simply leave you stunned.
Here are a few other things to keep in mind:
- Don’t skimp on other types of safety gear, such as steel-toed boots, as you need to protect all parts of your body
- Be aware of anyone who is working at height, and make sure you don’t walk in close proximity to where an object could drop
- If you’re personally working at height, be sure that all construction materials and tools are properly secured
You may believe you’ll never be struck by a falling object on a construction site, but this could happen when you least expect it.
In this case, you should immediately call for medical help and wait for an ambulance to arrive. Even if you’re feeling okay right after the accident, symptoms could set in down the road.
