2 dogs attack Wisconsin woman

On Aug. 17, a Neenah woman was attacked by two dogs after she was hired to provide pet care to them and arrived on the premises. The 32-year-old woman works for Never Home Alone Pet Sitting. The incident occurred in the 1300 block of Meadow Lane Avenue in Neenah.

When the dog sitter arrived at the home of the two English Bull Terriers, the dogs attacked her legs. The woman screamed for help while clutching a fence for support until neighbors responded. The neighbors were able to pull the woman across the fence to safety. The woman was taken to a hospital to undergo surgery following her injury. A police official was quoted as saying that the dog bite injury situation may have been worse had the neighbors not intervened.

The dogs' owner was notified, and a veterinarian was called. Officials transported the dogs to Neenah Animal Shelter to be quarantined for the next 10 days. The police chief is seeking to have the dogs designated as dangerous animals, which means that the owners would have to move the animals out of the city or have them put to sleep.

The owner of a dog has an obligation to control the animal. When a dog bites someone, according to state statues, the dog's owner may be strictly liable for any injuries that result. When an owner is on notice that a dog is dangerous, the owner may be required to pay double. A local personal injury attorney may be able to help dog bite victims recover for their medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering. An attorney may also be able to help uncover evidence to help determine whether the dog's owner was aware of the animal's propensity for violence.
