Going to work one day isn’t something that most people would consider the last thing they will do on this Earth. Sadly, for some , that is exactly what happens if they are killed in a workplace accident. For one Wisconsin man, going to work at the Seneca Foods in Oakfield led to an accident that ultimately took his life.

The 42-year-old man, who was a member of the maintenance staff, was apparently killed by a lathe when a piece of his clothing got caught up in the moving parts. Flight for Life, Lifestar Ambulance, the Oakfield Fire Department and first responders were all dispatched to the scene of the accident by the Fond du Lac County Communications Center at around 4:16 on the afternoon of Feb. 27. The Fond du Lac County Medical Examiner’s Office pronounced the man dead at the scene of the accident.

The incident is still under investigation. The chief financial officer of Seneca Foods says that the company is cooperating with the investigation. Both Occupational Safety and Health Administration officials and the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the event. The sheriff’s office is awaiting the report from the man’s autopsy.

The company’s CFO says they want to learn how the incident occurred. Hopefully, they can determine ways to prevent a similar situation from claiming the life of another employee. For this man’s family, learning how to live without him is something they now face. They may decide to seek for his wrongful death. While won’t bring the man back, it might help them to cope with the financial impact of his death.
