When carrying a heavy object, you need to take special care, as one slip can lead to a serious accident that results in extensive harm to your body.

For example, if you’re carrying a large tool on a construction site, dropping it could result in a foot-crush injury.

If you drop an object on your foot and begin to feel immediate pain, there’s a chance that you’ve suffered a serious injury. Rather than attempt to walk it off, sit down to assess the situation and decide what to do next.

While sitting down can ease some of the pain, there is no way of knowing your exact injury until you seek medical attention. With the help of an X-ray, among other tests, you’ll soon know if you’ve suffered a broken bone.

Here are some of the many care-related tips you can follow after a foot-crush injury:

  • Follow the direction of your medical team, such as if you are told to wear a boot, cast or splint for a specific period of time
  • Keep your leg elevated in an attempt to reduce swelling and pain
  • Use over-the-counter pain medication, if prescribed by your doctor
  • If the pain worsens, contact your doctor to discuss your options

Since a foot-crush injury may require several weeks or months or rest, you may not be able to return to work. In this case, you’ll need to file a claim for ‘ benefits. If approved, you can receive money that will help you financially until you can return to work.
