Construction worker injured by impaired driver in Wisconsin

A car accident on Interstate 41 in Appleton sent two people to the emergency room on August 18. The accident occurred around 3:45 a.m. It took place on the southbound side of I-41 at Highway 441 approaching Ballard Road. One of the people injured in the crash was a Wisconsin highway worker.

Officers were dispatched to an accident involving a driver who was operating while intoxicated (OWI). The injured construction worker was painting lines at the time of the crash. The second person injured in the crash was the passenger in the vehicle that struck the construction worker.

Neither party suffered life-threatening injuries, but both were transported to local hospitals as precautions. The driver of the vehicle, a 27-year-old Appleton resident, was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle intoxicated that caused injury.

The highway remained closed until sometime after 6 a.m. for officers to complete their investigation. A Wisconsin State Police spokesperson said that traffic cones clearly marked the construction zone that night. He also said that there were signs warning of the construction zone prior to where the worker's vehicle was located. The vehicle also had bright warning lights and signs.

Suffering an injury on a construction site can put you out of work for a long period. Construction zones on roads across Wisconsin are dangerous for workers of all experience levels. It's essential to make sure you always wear proper reflective gear when operating at a highway construction zone.

If you or a loved one is injured while working, it's important to explore your right to workers' compensation to help you as you recover.
